With VoIP\u00a0phone service, municipalities\u00a0typically pay\u00a0the cost of their\u00a0Internet service (which is needed to support data services anyway) plus a <a href=\"\/pricing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">low flat rate for the phone\u00a0service<\/a>. IP <a href=\"\/voip-phones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">desk phones<\/a> are not expensive\u00a0and usually come preconfigured with many of the features you&#8217;d pay more for with a traditional phone carrier.<\/p>\n<h2>Instant Scalability<\/h2>\n<p>With Internet-based service, there is no waiting for phone technicians to run cable or configure account or billing settings\u2014you simply <a href=\"\/call-handling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">add, remove or reconfigure phone extensions<\/a> as needed. As departments split or merge, it&#8217;s easy to reconfigure\u00a0extensions, queues and menus quickly. And apart from maintaining basic network infrastructure and the cost of any new desk phones, the\u00a0investment in hardware is minimal.<\/p>\n<h2>Flexible Features<\/h2>\n<p>The City of Newark gets over <a href=\"\/phone-features\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">40 features with its\u00a0phone service<\/a>. VoIP services are typically more customizable than traditional phone service\u2014departments\u00a0can set up each phone line and extension to meet highly specialized call-handling, voicemail, fax and conference-call specifications. And since they\u00a0control setup, managers\u00a0can change those settings at any time at no extra cost!<\/p>\n<h2>Mobilizing Government<\/h2>\n<p>With VoIP, government employees are no long tied to their desks.
