It’s the iPhone week and Apple‘s iPhone 13 series came here with a bang. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max complete the company’s next generation of smartphones for 2021. These two devices set themselves apart from the iPhone 13 and 13 mini in some or other ways. Let’s dive in…
The iPhone 13 Pro as expected for a long time now comes with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate ProMotion OLED display. The display refresh rate varies according to the speed of the user’s input. Speaking of which, both the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max feature a 6.1″ and 6.7″ screen respectively.
The notch is now 20% smaller than the previous model. The rumored Always-On Display is nowhere to be seen and so we were very heavily disappointed by the absence of a decade-old feature.
Internally, we have the fastest chip in the mobile industry, the A15 Bionic along with a 5-core GPU for advanced graphic performance. Apple claims the new chipset is 50% faster than the competition. Storage starts at 128GB all the way up to 1TB this year. An impressive 8GB of RAM is on board. As expected iOS 15 runs the show here. It will be available as a software update on all other devices on September 20.
Camera performance has been improved with larger pixels and better aperture. The wide, ultrawide, and telephoto all feature 12MP resolution. The ultrawide features a new lens design along with the improved autofocus capability and better software tricks that bring macro shots to the iPhone 13 Pro line. subjects as close as 2cm can be magnified with this new and improved solution.
The front camera is again 12MP in resolution with improved clarity thanks to the A15 Bionic chip.
Main camera video capabilities include a Cinematic mode feature that allows movie-grade automatic depth on subjects in a scene while recording. Also new here is the ProRes video which belts out video footage using an advanced codec to deliver feature-film and commercial level results with high color fidelity and less compression.
As far as battery life is concerned, Apple claims the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro max last 1.5 hrs and 2.5 hrs longer than the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max respectively.
