Apple brings back the magnifying glass for text selection in iOS 15

As part of the newly introduced iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Apple finally and rather quietly brought back the magnifying glass for text selection in the software update. Yes, that sensible little way to move the cursor around text-rich content that vanished since iOS 13. The feature took a two-year hiatus. However, in comparison to the pre-iOS 13 days, the magnification here appears to be smaller.

Nevertheless, it is better than nothing at all. In a rather bizarre move, Apple with the release of iOS 13 decided to quietly remove this very useful feature. Since then, text selection was a chore and often our thumb blocked the whole text we were trying to select.

Apple has listed the magnifying glass feature in the feature list for iOS 15 on their website.

iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are now currently in their early stages of release. The first Developer Beta was out to developers right after the WWDC21 event. However, you can still download and install iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 Developer Beta even without a developer account.

The Public Beta will release in July. Anyways, do keep in mind that Apple may or may not include this feature in future builds. However, since users will definitely appreciate the feature comeback, we find no reason for Apple to not include it in the final version of iOS 15 this fall.
